Temp Manager Jon McCarthy Gets Permanent Chester FC Appointment

Chester Football Club can this morning announce that Jon McCarthy has been appointed as First Team Manager on a one-year deal, with the option of a further year.

McCarthy – who led the Club to three wins in four games whilst in a temporary managerial position – has agreed the deal to be with the Club until at least the end of the 2016/17 National League season.

Speaking to ChesterFC.com about his appointment, McCarthy said: “To be given the job, it’s an honour.

“Everybody has got behind me: all the staff and the board and also the fans. It’s given me a lot of belief to put together an application.

“The way that people have taken on board what we have been trying to do and believed in it has been great.

“What you’ll get from me is the hardest working Manager in the National League!”

Former Northern Ireland International McCarthy has been with the Club since January 2014, when he joined as First Team coach alongside Steve Burr. He then became the CEO of the Club’s Community Trust in June 2014.

On the appointment, City Fans United Chairman Simon Olorenshaw commented, “I am delighted with the appointment of Jon McCarthy as First Team Manager.

“Of all the candidates, not only was he the most enthusiastic and passionate about the three key foundations of our club – first team, youth and community – but he also showed a tactical awareness that we believe is the right match for the club going forward.

“The Board are looking forward to working with Jon through the summer months to support him in preparing a squad to deliver success on the pitch next season.”
