Make sure that you are registered to vote!

Individuals have until 20 November to make sure their name is on the new register of electors, which comes into effect on 1 December.

Canvassers have been knocking on doors across West Cheshire to make sure that important forms concerning the electoral register are completed.

Households and individuals who have not yet returned forms and provided the information about who should be registered have been sent reminders and may receive a house visit by a personal canvasser.

Residents who are not currently on the electoral register are encouraged to register to vote online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
Even if you know that you are on the current electoral register you still need to return the ‘household enquiry’ form.

All canvassers employed by the Council will show their identification badge and will not make house visits late at night.

They will be able to explain the reasons why the forms need completing and are able to provide assistance if you need help filling in your form.

Steve Robinson, Electoral Registration Officer of Cheshire West and Chester Council, said: “Registering to vote is a simple process. However, some people may not realise that they must register individually.

“Anyone who wants to vote must be registered to make sure they are able to have their say at any future elections. Some people might not realise that in order to obtain credit their name must be on the electoral register.”
