Fire crews were called to a city centre shop just before midnight over concerns of a pallet fire spreading.
Pallets and other items were involved in a fire behind a Chester store in the early hours of this morning. Firefighters put out the fire but were concerned that it had spread into the shop, Marks and Spencer on Foregate Street. They gained access to the building, two of the crew wearing breathing apparatus, to fully inspect and found smoke had penetrated but there was no fire.
The aerial appliance was used to check the roof area. Fire damage was limited to outside the building, with light smoke logging to two floors.
Crews, who were in attendance for over two hours, used a hose reel jet and a thermal imaging camera at the scene.
One fire engine and the aerial appliance from Chester and one fire engine from Ellesmere Port attended the incident.
